Australian shares are poised to fall on Tuesday as oil prices surged 5% after Iran and the US traded demands for compensation, reducing hopes of a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and raising concerns over tighter global energy supplies.
Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average each fell 0.1%, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.3%.
In the macroeconomy, investors are eyeing the Reserve Bank of Australia's interest rate decision.
In corporate news, SGH (ASX:SGH) reported Tuesday fiscal 2026 underlying earnings of AU$2.25 per share on revenue of AU$10.59 billion, compared with underlying earnings of AU$2.26 on revenue of AU$10.74 billion a year earlier.
Life360 (ASX:360) reported Tuesday second quarter earnings of $0.06 per share on revenue of $159 million, compared with earnings of $0.08 on revenue of $115.4 million a year earlier.
Australia's benchmark index fell 0.3%, or 31 points, to close at 9,232.60 on Monday.
