Archer Materials (ASX:AXE) said an early-stage blood collection study for the development of its potassium biosensor identified a capillary blood collection approach that produced low levels of hemolysis broadly comparable with conventional venous blood collection, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.
Hemolysis, where red blood cells are damaged during or after blood collection, can release additional potassium into the sample and potentially result in an artificially elevated potassium reading.
The study involved 20 participants, per the filing. The extent of hemolysis associated with each collection approach was assessed in the laboratory. The firm said it will use the findings to further develop how blood is collected, processed and presented to the biosensor.
Archer Materials' shares rose past 2% in recent trading on Thursday.
