Altimmune's Investigational Alcohol Use Disorder Drug Meets Primary Endpoint in Phase 2 Study

By

Altimmune's (ALT) investigational drug Pemvidutide met its primary and several secondary endpoints in a phase 2 study for treatment of alcohol use disorder, the company said Tuesday.

A 2.4 mg dose yielded a "statistically significant and clinically meaningful" reduction in heavy drinking days versus placebo, the primary endpoint of the approximately 100-patient study, the company said.

The company also met secondary endpoints including a two-level reduction in World Health Organization Risk Drinking Levels and achieving zero heavy-drinking days versus placebo, the company said.

The drug also showed generally favorable tolerability, the company said.

Based on the data, Altimmune plans to request an End-of-Phase 2 meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to discuss pemvidutide's path forward in alcohol use disorder, the company said.

Shares of the company were up more than 11% in recent premarket trading.
