Alfa Laval has signed a 1.1 billion Swedish kronor ($110 million) contract to supply hydrotreated vegetable oil pre-treatment technology for Acelen's new biorefinery project in Brazil, Alfa Laval said in a statement on Monday.
The agreement, which Alfa Laval described as the largest order in its history, will be executed in phases through to the project's expected completion in 2029.
Under the contract, Alfa Laval will deliver HVO pre-treatment systems comprising heat exchangers, separators, and engineered process components covering multiple stages of feedstock preparation and treatment.
The equipment will be installed at Acelen's planned biorefinery, which is designed to produce more than 17,230 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel and other renewable fuels using the HVO process.
Feedstocks will include soybean oil, used cooking oil, and macauba, a native Brazilian crop considered a promising input for biofuel production.
Alfa Laval said its systems will be deployed across several processing stages, including clarification to remove solids from used cooking oil, degumming and absorption units, and wastewater treatment processes intended to improve overall efficiency and sustainability of the facility.
