Energy majors including the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, TotalEnergies (TTE), BP (BP), CNPC, and Inpex have entered into a concession agreement to develop of the Bab Gas Cap project in Abu Dhabi, according to statements from the companies.
The statements from TotalEnergies, BP, and Inpex, said the project consists of three reservoirs at Abu Dhabi Onshore Concession's Bab Oil Field and targets an output of up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of gas.
The Bab Gas Cap concession, operated by ADNOC Onshore, also involves the co-production of gas and condensates, along with gas cap. Gas Cap refers to the layer of natural gas accumulated above oil in a reservoir.
Adnoc owns a 60% interest in the Bab Oil Field, while BP owns 10%, TotalEnergies 10%, CNPC 8%, INPEX 5%, ZhenHua Oil 4%, and GS Energy 3%. BP serves as the asset lead for the Bab Oil Field, according to its statement.
The new concession builds on the 2015 renewal of the 40-year onshore oil concession, previously known as ADCO, and aligns with "Abu Dhabi's strategy to expand both its liquids production from condensates and its gas output while reinforcing its LNG value chain, notably the Ruwais LNG project," Total Energies said.
TotalEnergies' interests in the UAE contributed 393,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to the company's hydrocarbon output in 2025. The company's UAE assets includes interests in nearly all major concessions and across the natural gas and liquefied natural gas value chain and consists of a 5% stake in Adnoc LNG and a 10% stake in the Ruwais LNG project, TotalEnergies said.
TotalEnergies also has a renewable energy presence in the UAE, especially in distributed solar, and operates a lubricants blending plant serving the Middle East.
In the UAE, BP owns a 10% interest in Adnoc Onshore, Adnoc LNG, the National Gas Shipping Company and Adnoc's Ruwais LNG development. It has previously participated in the development of discovered resources in Kirkuk in Iraq, Western Offshore fields in India, and Karabagh and Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara in Azerbaijan, BP said.
Inpex and its partners are steadily producing crude oil from 11 oil fields in the Abu Dhabi Onshore Concession, including the Bab Oil Field, Inpex said.
