3M, DuPont, Corteva, Chemours Sued by New York AG Over Toxic Pollution From Consumer Products

By

3M (MMM), EIDP, Chemours Co. (CC), Corteva (CTVA) and DuPont de Nemours (DD) are facing a New York State lawsuit alleging that they knowingly sold toxic polyfluoroalkyl substances -- so-called forever chemicals or PFAS -- used in a range of consumer goods.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said Thursday that the chemical manufacturers produced and sold the materials despite knowing their toxicity while actively hiding environmental and health hazards from the public.

Company data allegedly showed that 3M found the substances in human blood during the 1970s, while DuPont allegedly suppressed 1981 research linking the products to birth defects in exposed pregnant employees, according to the AG statement.

The state is seeking a court order to establish corporate liability, force the businesses to finance environmental remediation, and secure monetary restitution alongside other penalties, the statement added.

3M, EIDP, Chemours, Corteva, DuPont de Nemours did not immediately respond to' requests for comment.
