38 Degrees North said on Wednesday that it had secured a $260 million credit facility from Apterra Infrastructure Capital to finance the construction of about 85 megawatts of community solar projects in New York and Illinois.
The financing follows 38 Degrees North's August close of a HoldCo debt facility with EIG, which gave the company additional capital to advance projects in its development pipeline.
"New York and Illinois continue to be among the most active community solar programs in the country," Ryan Bennett, a partner at 38 Degrees North, said in the statement.
38 Degrees North has raised over $1.7 billion in capital to date. Founded in 2015, 38 Degrees North focuses on development-stage and construction-ready distributed generation and community solar projects, both through its own development activities and partnerships with project developers.
The company has more than 100 projects representing about 500 megawatts under construction or operating, with a further pipeline of over 250 MW planned for construction over the next 24 months.
Bennett said that the latest facility will help 38 Degrees North convert its permitted and construction-ready projects into operating assets.
Community solar allows customers who may not have suitable rooftops or other sites for solar installations to subscribe to electricity generated by larger projects. New York and Illinois are among the US states with established community-solar markets.
