US natural gas stockpiles in underground storage stood at 2,142 billion cubic feet for the week ending April 24, up 79 Bcf from the previous week, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report Thursday.
Inventories were 116 Bcf above year-ago levels and 153 Bcf higher than the five-year average of 1,989 Bcf.
At 2,142 Bcf, total working gas remains within the five-year historical range, the EIA said.
The net increase is less than market expectations for an 83 Bcf build, according to data from Investing.com.
