-- Iberdrola's ScottishPower Renewables and Abu Dhabi's Masdar have installed the first turbine at the 4 billion British pounds ($4.1 billion) East Anglia Three offshore windfarm, the companies said on Tuesday.
The project's Siemens Gamesa 14MW turbine features 115-meter blades, the longest ever manufactured and installed in UK waters, with all 285 blades for the 95-turbine project being produced at Siemens Gamesa's Hull facility.
The East Anglia Three, located off the Suffolk coast, will have a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts upon completion, generating enough electricity to power over 1.3 million UK homes.
Masdar said each turbine stands about 262 meters tall and is estimated to generate enough electricity to power a UK home for more than four days.
The project is expected to be among the world's largest offshore wind farms when fully operational, contributing significantly to Britain's clean power targets and offshore wind expansion strategy.
