-- Pakistan is rushing to secure liquefied natural gas from the spot market as a crippling energy shortage triggers widespread power outages.
State-owned Pakistan LNG issued an emergency tender on Thursday for three cargoes to be delivered to Port Qasim between late April and mid-May. This is the first time Pakistan has procured LNG from spot market in over two years, Bloomberg had reported earlier.
Pakistan LNG has set a tight deadline, requiring international suppliers to submit bids by April 24.
Imports have been frozen since early March after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, following US and Israeli strikes.
The regional conflict further tightened the noose on supply when an Iranian attack forced Qatar to shut down the world's largest LNG export facility, leading to mass cancellations for global customers.
