-- Annual inflation in the euro area jumped to 3% in April from 2.6% in March, according to Eurostat flash estimates released Thursday.
The latest reading is above the consensus estimate of 2.9%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices were 1% higher.
Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, the annual inflation rate came in at 2.2%, lower than the previous and expected 2.3%. Month over month, core consumer prices rose 0.9%.
