The European Union antitrust regulators have approved the creation of a joint venture between Germany's Messer and Ambrian Energy after concluding that the deal would not raise competition concerns under the merger rules, the European Commission said on Wednesday.
The merger, which will create a company focusing on the intermediate storage of carbon dioxide, was cleared under the EU's simplified merger review procedure.
The Commission concluded that the deal would not raise competition concerns because the joint venture has negligible activities within the European Economic Area. It added that the parent companies are not active in the same or vertically related markets.
