Market Chatter: Japan-Europe Nonstop Airfares Surge 90% After U.S.-Israeli Strikes on Iran, Nikkei Finds

-- Following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, airfares on direct Japan-Europe routes have spiked sharply, with some ANA (TYO:9202) flights to London recording a 90% price increase, Nikkei Asia reported on Tuesday, citing its own analysis.

According to Nikkei's tracking of round-trip fares from Tokyo's Haneda to London in early June, ANA's nonstop service surged from roughly 250,000 yen to over 480,000 yen between late February and mid-April, the publication said.

This jump reflects a decline in demand for Japan-Europe flights that connect through the Middle East, as passengers avoid conflict-affected hubs, the news agency said.

In contrast, fares for carriers like Emirates and Etihad, which route via Dubai or Abu Dhabi, have remained flat or even dipped, highlighting how geopolitical instability is reshaping travel patterns, the report said.
